2006 will be a big
year for Ulster-Scots! It's the 400th anniversary of one of the
most important events in Ulster-Scots history - the Hamilton and
Montgomery settlement of 1606 - yet like much of our history,
it's a story that hardly anyone knows about.

Before the Plantation
of Ulster, two Ayrshire Scots - James Hamilton and Hugh Montgomery
- pioneered a massive migration from the Lowlands of Scotland
to Co Antrim and Co Down.
Starting in May 1606,
more than 10,000 mainly Presbyterian Lowland Scots made the short
voyage across the North Channel, transforming barren Ulster into
